|Christopher Lee, Student Regent|
Dallas - (May 12, 2016) – University of North Texas Student Government Association Vice President Christopher Lee, a junior studio arts major who is concentrating in photography, has been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve as the UNT System’s student regent from June 2016 through May 2017. Lee begins his term on June 1, after student regent Courtny Haning’s term expires on May 31.
“I look forward to working with Christopher Lee as the newest UNT System Student Regent," said UNTS Chancellor Lee Jackson. "All of our Student Regents have added a valuable perspective, and the Board members and I thank UNT Dallas College of Law student Courtny Haning for her service as Student Regent during the past year."
As student regent, Lee represents all students in the UNT System – including those at UNT Dallas and the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth – in discussions with the Board of Regents. He said he looks forward to serving the students of the UNT System and wants to focus on ensuring the unique experience each student receives is maintained while the university system expands.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this position,” Lee said. “My service in the Student Government Association at UNT gave me a great awareness of student interests and affairs. I will use that knowledge and build upon it while representing the UNT System students.”
Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 2005, student regents hold one-year terms beginning in June and are charged with representing the interests of students, the State of Texas and the university system. Lee is among 10 students Abbott appointed to their respective university system boards.
While not a voting member of the 10-member UNT System Board of Regents, Lee may serve on task forces, committees and special commissions. Lee will attend Board of Regents meetings and participate in other activities required by the Office of the Governor and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
