Benefits - ERS Insurance

As of September 1, 2017 (FY18), the plan administrator for ERS health plans will change from HealthSelect of Texas℠ and Consumer Directed HealthSelect Healthcare to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX). OptumRx will remain the prescription drug provider. ERS made the change as part of periodic re-bidding for contracted services.

Enrolled employees should discuss this change with their physicians and other providers to make certain that covered family members have a smooth transition for medical care. The plan administrator changes at midnight August 31, 2017, the final day of FY17.  As of September 1, 2017, the first day of FY18, BCBSTX will be health plan administrator.

  • Annual enrollment for FY18 will be July 2-15 for UNT and July 9-22 for UNTHSC, UNT Dallas and UNT System Administration.

Insurance benefits include medical, dental, prescription drugs, optional term life insurance, short term disability and long term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, dependent term life.

The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) administers most health insurance benefits through UnitedHealthcare and HealthSelect. Find information about costs, providers, coverage in the links below.

Annual enrollment in State of Texas-sponsored health and optional benefits is scheduled each summer. Enrolled employees with a qualifying life event such as marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child may adjust  benefits to accommodate that change within 30 days of its occurrence.

Enrolled employees should register and obtain an ERS name and password to access their account or may contact ERS by phone or email. Human Resources staff cannot access an individual account. Changes made to System EIS employee preferences are not recorded by ERS.

Coverage selected during annual enrollment is effective from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, the fiscal year for the State of Texas.

ERS Flexible Spending Accounts (TexFlex)

Benefits-eligible employees must enroll in TexFlex during the first 31 days of employment. TexFlex accounts are managed by ADP, but a new administrator, WageWorks, will be in place in FY18, beginning Sept. 1, 2017.
