Benefits - Perks for Employees

Employees enjoy a number of perquisites, or perks, associated with the university campuses and components.

Vendors and merchants who wish to provide discounts or special offers to employees may contact PerksConnectPerkSpot or the state employee Discount Purchase Program. The UNT System does not endorse or promote these services or any vendor affiliated with them.

Faculty/Staff/Retiree/Dependent Educational Scholarship

The Faculty/Staff/Retiree/Dependent Educational Scholarship benefit (UNT Policy 10.025) is available at all components of the UNT System. The scholarship pays the cost of Board of Regents-designated tuition and mandatory fees.

Scholarship beneficiaries first must meet academic requirements for admission, register for classes and then may apply for the scholarship by the 12th day of class for each semester enrolled.

The State of Texas also offers tuition exemptions through its College for all Texans program. Find a detailed explanation of tuition in the Texas Education Code, Chapter 54.

Merchandise/Software/Electronic Discounts


PerkSpot and PerksConnect offer discounted merchandise, buying services and products to employees at all locations. Log in to PerkSpot to create an account. Log in to PerksConnect online or download the PerksConnect app from Google Play or Apple Store to create an account. PerksConnect employee code is UNTX17.

The Employee Retirement System of Texas (ERS) offers a Discount Purchase Program administered by Beneplace. Discounts on merchandise, travel, and services are available to active full-time and part-time employees, retirees and their families at all components.

  • The Adobe Creative Cloud is available to students, faculty and staff for home use in accordance with the system's Enterprise Term License Agreement for Education. Click the Student or Faculty/Staff tab and then complete registration.

  • Microsoft Home Use allows employees to download Microsoft Office. Cost is $9.95. Find the link, log in.

  • Other academic-priced software for many platforms is available to faculty and staff from campus bookstores: UNT, UNTHSC, UNT Dallas. Identification is required.

Airport parking, rental cars

  • The ParkingSpot offers off-site airport parking discounts to employees at all components. The service is at DFW International and Love Field.

  • National and Enterprise rental car agencies also offer discounts. Learn more.

Campus Activities/Performing Arts/Lectures

Performing Arts

  • The UNT Department of Dance and Theatre offers ticket price discounts to faculty and staff at all components.

  • UNT also is home to an internationally recognized College of Music and the Murchison Performing Arts Center. (Many performances are streamed free and live online.) Faculty and staff may show an employee ID from any System component to receive discounted tickets, usually priced at $8-$10.


  • UNT‘s Distinguished Lecture Series presentations are available to faculty and staff free or with discounted price tickets. Speakers have included President George W. Bush, Science Guy Bill Nye, Apple designer Steve Wozniak and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

  • Scientific, medical and research-related presentations are regularly scheduled on the UNTHSC campus.


The Willis Library at UNT, Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library at UNTHSC, the library at UNT Dallas and at the UNT Dallas College of Law allow employee use.  Employee identification is required at each.


  • Discounts are available at dining facilities at UNT and UNT Dallas.

  • Restaurants in Denton and near UNTHSC in Fort Worth regularly offer discounts to employees.

Sports, Recreation and Fitness

  • Faculty and staff may purchase ticket packages for NCAA Division I sports at UNT. The Mean Green athletic teams compete with Texas rivals Rice University, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Texas at San Antonio and SMU. UNT is a member of Conference USA.

  • Football games are played in Denton at Apogee Stadium, basketball in the UNT Coliseum and softball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, golf and swimming are scheduled at UNT's campus facilities. Apogee Stadium has received national recognition for its eco-friendly construction and operation.

  • The Founders Activity Center (UNTHSC) and Pohl Recreation Center (UNT) offer faculty and staff discounts for exercise and wellness programs. UNT Dallas has outdoor basketball and soccer facilities.

  • Faculty and staff at each campus also may participate in student and community activities such as fun runs and fitness challenges.

UNT has formed a partnership - free of charge to UNT students, faculty, and staff - with Camp Fire First Texas’ Child Care Network (CCN) to provide customized child care solutions. Learn more and find  other family resources at UNT and the Denton area.

Little Learners U, a child development center managed by Bright Horizons, is scheduled to open at UNTHSC in late 2017; UNTHSC employees only.

Living in Denton, Dallas and Fort Worth

The North Texas region offers the amenities and activities associated with a major metropolitan area. Special price admission is periodically offered to employees from any System component by the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Over Texas, FC Dallas, Fort Worth Zoo and other area attractions, Discounts may be offered through PerkSpot, PerksCard or Beneplace.
