Compensation and Pay Plans

Compensation is managed by the Human Resources Total Rewards department. Compensation includes:

  • Salary

  • Job classifications

  • Job grading and evaluation

  • Equity reviews

  • Pay bands and plans

Salary and compensation programs are designed to:

  • Ensure fair pay that is tied to current market levels.

  • Establish clear career paths so team members know how they may advance in their organization.

  • Enhance transparency and consistency.

  • Help recruit, retain and motivate talented team members.

Compensation for Faculty

The Office of the Provost at each campus monitors and manages faculty salaries to support recruitment and retention of academic experts for teaching and research. The provost also oversees policies and procedures for tenure and promotion. Supplemental pay is available, but must be approved by Human Resources and the appropriate executive prior to assignment. Longevity Pay

Longevity pay is available to staff after 24 months of employment, according to State of Texas law. Employees receive $20 per month longevity pay in incremental amounts with a maximum of $420 after 505 months of employment.

Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA)

Staff employees are compensated for overtime worked in accordance with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended, and the Texas General Appropriations Act. FLSA classification is assigned by Human Resources when a new job is created or when a job's duties are significantly revised.  

Market and regional standards

The Total Rewards staff monitors salaries in the Dallas-Denton-Fort Worth area, the region and at peer organizations to help establish pay plans. Data resources include: 

  • Respected consultants with expertise in compensation and human resources

  • The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), a national association that monitors human resources and employment trends in higher education

  • CompAnalyst, Payscale and other analytical programs
