Matthew W. Burris joined the Office of General Counsel in May 2016 as an Assistant General Counsel and focuses primarily on transactional matters. Before joining the UNT System, he worked in private practice with the Mayo Mallette firm where he represented higher education institutions in all matters of civil litigation. In addition, he worked as in-house counsel for the University of Mississippi. Mr. Burris received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and where he worked as a legal intern in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of General Counsel. Prior to attending law school, he received his B.A. in English with honors from the University of Southern Mississippi and worked as a teacher in North Texas.
