UNT Health researchers Karamichos and Tripathi each won separately with a University Innovators Award at the Texas Innovation Conference

Two leaders from UNT Health Fort Worth were recognized for their innovative research and contributions to advancing scientific discovery at the 2026 Texas Innovation Conference & Awards, hosted by Texas Christian University.

Texas Innovation Conference & Awards brought together universities, industry partners and community leaders from across North Texas to highlight research that is translating discovery into real-world impact. UNT Health had a strong presence at the event, with faculty recognized for their work in advancing new approaches to disease treatment and biomedical innovation.

Dimitrios Karamichos, PhD, vice president for research and graduate studies, and Amit Kumar Tripathi, PhD, research assistant professor, microbiology, immunology and genetics, were each recognized with the University Innovators Award (North Texas area) category. The award highlights researchers whose work demonstrates meaningful progress in scientific innovation and the potential to improve health outcomes through new discoveries.

Dr. Tripathi’s research focuses on developing novel therapeutic approaches to target cancer at the molecular level. His team has identified what is believed to be the shortest peptide reported to date that can inhibit key cancer signaling pathways. This discovery has the potential to open new avenues for targeted cancer therapies and contribute to more effective treatment strategies.

Dr. Karamichos was recognized for his contributions to advancing innovation and research at UNT Health. His leadership supports the continued growth of the university’s research enterprise and collaboration across the North Texas region. The recognition highlights the contributions of UNT Health researchers and reflects the university’s role within the North Texas innovation community.
