A Message from Chancellor Lesa Roe RE: Diversity & Inclusion

Monday, June 1, 2020

The University of North Texas System community is heartbroken and devastated by the disturbing events in Minneapolis that led to the senseless death of George Floyd. This tragic and unconscionable development is all too familiar in American history and must not continue. Tremendous change is needed to address the issues facing people of color in our country. We believe wholeheartedly in a culture that is inclusive and embraces different racial backgrounds and ideologies. When it comes to difficult issues, we will continue to encourage our diverse campuses to express themselves in thoughtful ways that foster respectful discussion and keep our students, faculty, staff and surrounding communities safe.  Now, more than ever, we must remember the words of former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan: “We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race.”
