Monday, January 15, 2024

January 15, 2024 - 7:49pm

Employees of the UNT System Enterprise:

All UNT System Administration offices – as well as UNT and UNT at Frisco, and the UNT Health Science Center – will open on Tuesday, Jan. 16. At this time, the UNT Dallas main campus and College of Law will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and are slated to reopen at normal hours on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Please note: Further notification will only be made if something changes.

Each UNT System member institution will communicate additional details to their respective campus communities regarding weather-related operations, as conditions and circumstances may vary by location.

We understand the winter weather impact varies across the North Texas Region. Regardless, we urge students, faculty, and staff to exercise their judgment for their personal safety, use caution while traveling, and prepare accordingly. Leaders from the UNT System and each campus will continue to monitor conditions and share updates via email, automated text messages and phone calls, the UNT System X account, and each campus's respective social media accounts and website. Employees, regardless of location, should contact their supervisor with any questions.

Lastly, ERCOT has issued a Conservation Appeal for Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Please continue to conserve energy when requested, as many of our employees may need to work remotely, and energy and electricity usage is critical for our enterprise to continue to operate.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Stay safe and warm.

January 15, 2024 - 1:54pm

Employees of UNT System Enterprise:

The UNT System is actively monitoring the weather conditions and maintaining communication with campus emergency operation teams, the National Weather Service, and state and local agencies. The process for deciding to alter operations starts with assessments of road conditions across the metroplex and consultations with each campus emergency operations teams. System and Campus Leadership will make the final call based on these comprehensive assessments no later than 5 a.m. tomorrow. Please know we are committed to making a decision with the safety of our students, faculty, and staff as our top priority.

As a reminder, should the UNT System or any of its member institutions ever close, delay opening, or cancel classes for inclement weather, a notification will be issued via email, automated texts alerts and phone calls, social media, and notices to local news outlets for public broadcast. If an announcement is NOT made, then the operations will continue as usual. More information and updates can be found at each institution’s official website:  UNT, HSC, UNT Dallas, UNT System.

Current Efforts:

  • Continuous Monitoring: We are closely observing weather forecasts and conditions and remain in constant contact with our inclement weather teams across the enterprise, as well as state and local authorities.
  • Preparation and Response: Our facilities and maintenance teams are actively addressing any issues arising from the weather to ensure safety and accessibility across every campus.

Preparedness Efforts:

  • Keep up to date of local weather advisories by continuing to monitor forecasts for changes in timing and impact.
  • Regularly check your email and our official communication channels for campus operation updates.
  • Stock your at-home emergency supplies in case there is a power outage at your home.
  • Review any applicable emergency procedures and discuss inclement weather responsibilities with your team.
  • Practice safe driving if you will be on the roads during inclement weather:
    • Slow down
    • Accelerate and decelerate slowly
    • Use caution when using your brake and allow sufficient time to come to a stop
    • Allow plenty of space between your vehicle and those in front of you
    • Avoid making sharp turns or braking suddenly
    • Stock your car emergency kit

Please remain vigilant and prioritize your well-being during this time. Should you have any concerns or require assistance, do not hesitate to contact your supervisor.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Stay safe and warm.
